If you are looking for a path to transition from classical music to more modern genres then DISCOVERING ROCK VIOLIN is the book for you. Chris Haig is a pedagogue of the non classical styles and take you through step by step from getting away from the black notes to working from a chord chart. Rock has its roots in country and segues into many other contemporary styles as well – so while rock might not be your thing think of it as a gateway.
Its a heady mix of music theory, the mysteries of the pentatonics, double stopping, harmonising with vocalists, doing fills and improve solos and bowing with rhythm…yes we can be a rhythm section as well.
Its alike book of lessons and includes many sample exercises on audio tracks , I found it useful to slow them down to about 75% though which a lot of music programmes can do these days.
