While my workshop isn’t overly large I like to keep a good stock of finer violins for players that have outgrown student instruments, these instruments are hand selected by me for sound quality primarily.
I have a selection of quality German violins (there is something about getting a violin from Europe), instruments from China (they have some fabulous makers now). And violins from British company Hidersine (now made in China) and older European violins that I have restored.
Todays violins are incredible value for money, making today is better than it has ever been big bright open instruments that can produce wonderful tone are available today that can take you playing to the next level. My restored instruments on the other hand are more subdued, mellow and dark that sometimes have to be coaxed into big rooms with modern strings and bridges that can really help them speak. They are a chance to hold in your hand something that likely has a rich history as complex as the sounds they produce..and are great value for money as well.
What ever you prefer, please make a time to come by, pull up a stool and entertain me at work as you try them out. Your forever violin awaits….
