Violin Warranty

All violins sold new , and to a limited extend secondhand,  come with a warranty. However if you read the warranty card it can look a bit scary. Yes a violin should have a warranty , but it’s not like a car is it. While robust enough in construction to hold nearly 80kg of string tension it has to be delicate enough to vibrate the top plate only a few mm thick in places. Ad to that its construction form timbers like maple, spruce and ebony all of which behave differently to humidity , temperature and age as they wear.  So usually you find the warranties have conditions around the workmanship and construction, with the wearable components like strings, horse hair, pegs and adjusters less so. Add in the propensity for injury due to misadventure from younger  students and some careful caveats around care for it, avoidance of extremes , like being left in a car form an essential component.

Its been my experience through helping with warranty enquiries, that there are sometimes signs of associated damage to a breakage so please try to do the right thing when looking to make a warranty claim.

Its been my joy to restore many an antique, vintage or even modern instrument, I am astounded with how well they bear up to age and wear. Yes bits can be damaged but you would be surprised at what can be repaired!
